Dr. Jay Johnson is the founder and owner of Exotic Pet Vets, the Valley’s first animal hospital devoted exclusively to the care of exotic pets.
As a boy growing up on the outskirts of Tucson, he was fascinated with exotic pets, especially reptiles. He kept a variety of these unique pets throughout his childhood including snakes, lizards, turtles, tortoises, tarantulas, rabbits, a cockatoo, pygmy goats, as well as more traditional pets like dogs and horses.
He received a Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Sciences from the University of Arizona in 1992 and went on to veterinary school at Colorado State University graduating with a DVM degree in 1996. During veterinary school he was involved in a variety of research projects with exotics pets and wildlife. He did a lot of work with Siberian polecats that were being studied as models for the care of the endangered North American black-footed ferret. As these are closely related to the domestic ferret, he was able to learn quite a lot that applies to care for pet ferrets. He also did a lot of research with desert tortoises developing new medical and surgical techniques. One of the projects he worked on developed the dose for an antibiotic clarithromycin that is commonly used to treat desert tortoises with upper respiratory disease caused by Mycoplasmosis.
After returning to Arizona, Dr. Johnson worked with the Arizona Game and Fish Department for many years monitoring the health of some wild populations of tortoises and continues to be an active advisor for the Turtle and Tortoise Projects program. He also is a consultant for desert tortoise projects for the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the US Geological Survey, and the Desert Tortoise Conservation Center. His consulting work includes veterinary oversight of research projects, monitoring health of wild populations, and teaching classes to biologists on health monitoring and other aspects of working with desert tortoises.
Dr. Johnson became active with the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians after school. He served on their board for many years and became President of the organization from 2005-2006. He continues to serve as a peer review editor for the association’s scientific publication, the Journal of Herpetological Medicine and Surgery.
He has lectured at many continuing education conferences for veterinarians and veterinary technicians. He really enjoy helping other professionals learn how to provide quality medicine and care to reptiles, wildlife, and other exotic pets. He also enjoys sharing his experience and knowledge by writing and has published in many journals and books on exotic pet and reptile medicine and surgery.
Dr. Johnson is retired from clinical practice; however is still very involved with hospital operations, growth and development.

Dr. Lamb has always desired to provide good health, happiness and care to all exotic pets. She grew up in Las Vegas, NV and after graduating from UNLV with a B.S. in Biology, she attended veterinary school at the University of Minnesota. Upon finishing veterinary school she performed a one year internship in avian and exotic medicine followed by a two year residency in avian medicine and surgery. After completion of her residency, Dr. Lamb first moved to southern California and practiced at an exotics exclusive animal hospital and then moved to Arizona to be a part of our team starting in 2014. During her career she has also worked with many humane societies, parrot and rabbit rescue groups, wildlife centers and raptor rehabilitation facilities. She is always striving to learn more and is focused on contributing to the advancement of knowledge of avian and exotic animal medicine by providing the highest quality veterinary care possible. Her and her husband share their home with various pets including dogs, geckos, tortoises, a snake, fish, and various parrots, passerines and finches. Dr. Lamb passed her Avian Medicine boards in the fall of 2014 and recertified again in 2024.

Dr. Pilny is a native New Yorker but joined Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital by way of Los Angeles, California. Dr. Pilny is a graduate of the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine. He completed an internal medicine and surgery internship at Florida Veterinary Specialists in Tampa, Florida and a residency in Avian and Exotic Pet Medicine and Surgery at The Animal Medical Center in New York City. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners certified in Avian Practice since 2005, and currently serves as vice-chair for the maintenance of certification committee.
Dr. Pilny has lectured nationally and internationally about avian and exotic pet medicine and has published numerous scientific articles and book chapters on birds and other exotic species. Dr. Pilny is a member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians, Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians, Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians, and the American Veterinary Medical Association. He currently serves a a veterinary advisor to the House Rabbit Society and serves on the advisory board of Medgene. Dr Pilny is also the chair of the Association of Avian Veterinarians welfare committee.
Dr. Pilny loves traveling, hiking, being a "foodie," and collecting Zuni Fetish animal carvings – of which he has a very large collection. Dr. Pilny is also trained in making traditional stained glass art. He shares his home with five pet birds – including a rescued pigeon, two cats, two rabbits, a goldfish, many desert tortoises.

Dr. Klein grew up in northern New York and is here to stay in Arizona where the days are warm and sun is bright. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Zoology at SUNY Oswego before moving on to obtaining her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. She has recently completed a rotating internship in small animal and exotic medicine and surgery at VCA Valley Animal Hospital. She enjoys working with all species from fins to feathers and is interested in specializing in reptile and amphibian medicine. In her free time she enjoys taking care of her own menagerie of pets, wildlife and macro photography, hiking, kayaking and scuba diving.

Dr. Lewis hails from Indianapolis, IN but has also lived, studied, and worked in TN, NJ, and NY. After graduating from Purdue University, she attended the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. She has completed multiple internships, and a residency in exotic companion mammals, always caring for a wide variety of species including birds, mammals, and herptiles. She joined the AZEAH team in the summer of 2023. Her passion lies with medicine & surgery of rabbits, rodents, wildlife, and other “weird exotics”, as well as teaching and client education.
Dr. Lewis has personal experience caring for rabbits, rats, geckos, and bearded dragons. In her free time, she loves exploring the greater Phoenix area either by bike or car, keeping active with CrossFit, trying new restaurants, breweries/wineries, as well as experiencing all of what nature has to offer!

Dr. Gilbert is originally from Houston, Texas and completed veterinary school at St. George University with her clinical year at the University of Illinois. She completed a small animal rotating internship at the Angell Animal Medical Center and an Avian and Exotics Specialty Internship at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists and a wildlife specialty internship with the National Wildlife Centre of Canada. She completed her exotic companion mammal residency at the Avian and Exotic Animal Clinic of Indianapolis in 2024.

Mike Corcoran is a 2008 graduate of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University (Go Cougs!). His practice history has included small animal emergency medicine and exotic animal exclusive practice, including being an associate at Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital, and starting and managing a referral practice for exotic animals at Bulger Veterinary Hospital in the Boston area.
He is a certified aquatic veterinarian and a board-certified specialist in Reptile and Amphibian Practice with the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. Dr. Corcoran has served on the board of the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians (ARAV) for more than 5 years, including 1 year as President of the organization. He is currently the chair of that group’s Legislation and Animal Welfare Committee.
Dr. Corcoran currently resides in sunny Southern California and is practicing part time while acting as a consultant and remaining active in teaching and lecturing. He’ll be working part-time at the Mesa office and he’ll be very active in the mentoring and support of our Reptile and Amphibian residents here at AZEAH.

Dr. Walth is originally from Colorado Springs, CO. He received his veterinary degree from Iowa State University. He completed a small animal rotating internship in Tucson, AZ followed by a residency in zoological medicine and surgery at the University of Georgia, as well as a concurrent master's degree in comparative biomedical science - zoological medicine.
Dr. Walth thoroughly enjoys the challenges and rewards of working with a diverse number of species. He is especially interested in anesthesia, surgery, and infectious disease management. In his free time, Dr. Walth enjoys hiking, climbing, and spending time with his family (both the human and the fuzzy/scaly varieties).

Dr. Banta-Long grew up in northwest Indiana in a small midwestern town called Porter. After attending Denison University for her Bachelor’s degree, she received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University (Go Bucks!). Dr. Banta-Long then moved to Washington state for a year-long exotic specialty internship at the Center for Bird and Exotic Animal Medicine. Following this internship, she has moved down to sunny Arizona to join the team at AZEAH. She has a particular interest in surgery and pain management.
Other interests include reading (particularly enjoys Stephen King!), hiking/backpack camping, exploring restaurants and cooking. Dr. Banta-Long lives with her dog (Tigger), crested gecko (Steve) and three African Dwarf frogs (currently unnamed).

Dr. Cole joined the Exotic Pet Vets team in 2026, bringing a deep commitment to high-quality, compassionate animal care to Phoenix’s unique pet community. Originally from New York, he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Iowa State University. Prior to veterinary school, he spent valuable time in North Carolina working as a veterinary assistant with exotic pets—a formative experience where he focused heavily on mastering advanced husbandry and clinical skills.
Dr. Cole’s professional focus is centered on animal welfare and providing gold-standard medical care tailored to the distinct needs of every species he treats. He is passionate about partnering with all owners to ensure their extraordinary companions thrive.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Cole is an avid runner currently training for the Phoenix Marathon. When he isn't hitting the pavement or exploring the Arizona trails, he enjoys trying new coffee spots and tending to his sourdough starter.

Dr. Fitzsimmons grew up in San Jose California. He obtained his bachelor's degree in biology from UC Berkeley (Go Bears!) before obtaining his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis. He has always had a special interest in turtles and tortoises and has raised his sulcata tortoise, Marshmallow, for the past 16 years. He is interested in specializing in reptile and amphibian medicine. In his free time, he enjoys running marathons, reading mystery novels and playing board games with his friends.

Dr. Taylor Belusic earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Arizona. Before veterinary school, she completed her undergraduate studies at Florida State University (go Noles!), where she earned a degree in Biology and solidified her fascination with animal biology and the natural world.
Originally from South Florida, Dr. Belusic grew up surrounded by incredible wildlife, both native and (thanks to Florida) plenty of invasive species too. This has helped prepare her for just about anything that might walk, hop, crawl, or slither through the clinic doors! Her early experiences fueled a lifelong passion for exotic animals, conservation, and aquatic ecosystems — with alligators ranking as her absolute favorite.
Throughout vet school, Dr. Belusic sought out every opportunity to work with non-traditional species. She spent much of her clinical training shadowing at Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital, where she gained hands-on experience with a wide variety of exotic cases, from tortoises to macaws to axolotls.
Those experiences ultimately brought her back to AZEAH, where she is now completing a year-long internship focused on exotic animal medicine and surgery. She particularly enjoys tackling reptile and wildlife cases and has a special interest in fish medicine, finding it rewarding to help clients care for such a diverse array of species.
Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Belusic loves watching classic movies, exploring Arizona’s beautiful landscapes, and spending time with her beloved dog, Tuna. When she’s back home in Florida, you’ll often find her fishing or out “herping” — searching for reptiles and amphibians — hobbies that perfectly reflect her lifelong love for wildlife (especially alligators).

Originally from southwest Pennsylvania, Dr. Willig obtained his Bachelor's degree from Arcadia University outside of Philadelphia. He then attended Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine before completing a rotating internship at BluePearl Pet Hospital in North Carolina. He has recently completed a specialty internship in exotic animal medicine at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in New Jersey, and is enthusiastic to be joining the AZEAH team as a resident in exotic animal medicine.
Dr. Willig's main passion is reptile medicine and care, especially snakes, but he still loves working with all exotic animals whether they are furred, feathered, or scaled. His free time is mostly filled with outdoor activities such as hiking and running agility with his fiancé and his corgi (Chidambaram), but also fits in artistic pursuits by painting miniature models, and participates in weekly D&D sessions with friends from across the country.

Dr. Anna-Marie Ruoff grew up in Colorado surrounded by nature, wildlife, and a small zoo of exotic pets. She decided very early in life that she wanted to be a veterinarian for exotic animals, and her passion for exotic animal medicine has only grown over time. She earned her bachelor's degree in Biology at Pomona College and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Western University of Health Sciences (graduating with Highest Honors). Dr. Ruoff worked as a nurse at an exotic pet exclusive hospital in California before going to veterinary school. Following veterinary school, she joined Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital where she completed an internship in exotic animal medicine and surgery, pioneered a residency program in reptile and amphibian practice, and continued as an associate veterinarian.
Dr. Ruoff is thrilled and proud to return home to open our Denver location as an Associate Veterinarian and as a Medical Advisory Board Member supporting all five of our hospitals: Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital in Mesa, Phoenix, and Tucson; Colorado Exotic Animal Hospital in Denver; and Avian and Exotic Veterinary Care in Portland, Oregon.
She loves to teach and -- in addition to providing mentorship and lectures for our internship and residency programs -- Dr. Ruoff has spoken for veterinary conferences, veterinary schools, veterinary technician programs, and pre-veterinary clubs. She also offers consultations and continuing education for local veterinarians to support them and improve the care of exotic pets.
Although Dr. Ruoff loves all animals, she has a special interest in, has completed advanced education for, and plans to specialize in reptile and amphibian practice. She also seeks to elevate the care for reptile and amphibians through improvements in captive welfare, enrichment, and behavioral training. Dr. Ruoff has been involved in the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians as a Member at Large (2021-2023), Secretary (2023-2024), a member of the Legislative and Animal Welfare (LAW) Committee, an available speaker, and a mentor for student members.
Dr. Ruoff has recently become Fear Free Certified for Avian.
Dr. Ruoff also enjoys tea, crosswords, games, and hiking. She shares her home with her partner as well as her rescued pets: blue tongue skink (Slinky), Uromastyx (Suez), Russian tortoise (Puzzle), red-eyed tree frog (Sushi), and dog (Riley).

Dr. Guerrera is a graduate of Colorado State University with a strong interest in avian and exotic pets. He has worked at the Denver Zoo and was involved in several field studies, including mountain gorillas in Uganda and sea turtles in Costa Rica. He has presented at multiple national conferences on a variety of topics in exotic animal medicine. One of his main areas of expertise is managing advanced dental disease in rabbits.
Currently, Dr. Guerrera coordinates the Hands-On Workshops for the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians for their annual ExoticsCon conference. He enjoys anything outdoors but has a special fondness for bicycling.

Dr. Brenna Fitzgerald, originally from Dallas, Texas, is a 2007 graduate of Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Fitzgerald has had a lifetime love affair with animals of all kinds, but has always considered working with birds and exotic animals her true calling.
She completed her residency in avian practice at the Medical Center for Birds in Oakley, California, and in 2012 became a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) in avian practice. She practiced exclusively avian medicine at the Medical Center for Birds for 13 years where she and her colleagues served a large clientele and provided referral and consultation services to veterinarians throughout the Bay Area and the larger region. During this time, she also had the privilege of mentoring many veterinary students, interns, and residents.
She relocated to the Denver area in 2021 and spent the first half of 2022 providing specialty care to avian patients at Homestead Animal Hospital in Centennial, Colorado. She is now extremely excited to join the stellar veterinary team at Colorado Exotic Animal Hospital and continue providing specialty services to the bird and exotic pet parents of Colorado and referral services to fellow practitioners in Colorado and the surrounding area.
Dr. Fitzgerald is strongly committed to furthering avian medicine, not only through serving her patients and clients in private practice, but also through education and support of the avian veterinary community. She has worked to promote continuing education by speaking at veterinary conferences, designing their educational programs, and authoring a number of scholarly articles. She is a member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians (AAV), serves on their Advisory Council as a Member-At-Large, and contributes to social media (#AAVBirdTales) and other educational content.
In 2021, Dr. Fitzgerald established Avian Exclusive Veterinary Consultation (AEVC), providing a variety of remote and in-person consultation services for avian veterinarians throughout the United States.
She and her partner, Todd, parent a menagerie of parrots, kitties, and one regal, senior beagle. Her feather babies are grey parrots Jasmine, Rex, Moe, Alex, and Athena, and blue-headed Pionus WeeWee.

Dr. Travis Noto was raised in Kenner, Louisiana, a suburb of New Orleans, before attending Mississippi State University for a double major in Wildlife, Fisheries, and Aquaculture and Biological Sciences. Before veterinary school, Dr. Noto participated in research in the fields of veterinary parasitology and catfish infectious diseases. Dr. Noto remained at Mississippi State University for his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, graduating in 2021. While in veterinary school, he participated in animal shelter demographic research leading to animal shelter surveys in 5 states including Colorado as well as becoming the inaugural epidemiology preceptor at the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington DC. Dr. Noto is the recipient of the Dean’s Pegasus Award, which is the highest award given to a member of the graduating class.
Following veterinary school, he moved to Colorado to pursue passions in avian and exotic medicine and surgery, geriatric care, and end of life care. Dr. Noto has many pets including a dog named Nutella, a cat named Toast, two red foot tortoises named Orlando and Epps, an ivory ball python named Tusk, and a Kenyan sand boa named Wakali.
When not working, Dr. Noto enjoys riding his motorcycle, birding, wildlife photography, and spending time cooking with friends.

Dr. Lykins grew up in Dayton, OH and attended Ohio State University for her undergraduate degree. During her undergrad, she spent most of her free time volunteering for wildlife rehabilitation centers and fostering orphaned wildlife. She later graduated from the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2023. During vet school she founded a herpetology club with friends and worked in a parasitology lab. Her parasitology research focused on invasive amphibians and reptiles of Florida and their impact on parasite lifecycles and geographic distribution. Her veterinary medicine interests include surgery, dentistry, parasitology, and infectious diseases. She looks forward to meeting all your scaly, feathery, and furry friends in the clinic!
Outside of veterinary medicine, she enjoys backpacking, trail running, herping, and painting. Her pet family includes a Western Hognose snake, Rotini.

Dr. Kapp was born in Portland, Oregon, and completed her Bachelors of Science at Oregon State University. She attended North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine, where she held several leadership positions including Co-President of the Turtle Rescue Team and President of the Invertebrate Medicine Club. She completed an exotic animal specialty internship program in North Carolina before moving back to Oregon to join the AEVC Team.

Dr. Kelsey Chapman was born and raised in Western Canada and has dedicated her life to caring for a wide variety of animals. As a child, she spent most of her time with dairy cattle, horses, and companion mammals, and as she grew up, she found her passion for herptiles. Dr. Chapman completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Earth and Ocean Sciences at the University of British Columbia, then moved to Alberta to obtain her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the University of Calgary. Since she graduated from veterinary school, she has pursued research projects in wildlife and reptile anesthesia, presented at annual exotics conferences, served as the Canadian representative for the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians (ARAV), participated as the overseeing vet at local reptile expos, and been a guest on several herptile podcasts. In 2023, Dr. Chapman moved to Oregon and welcomed a son in 2024. Dr. Chapman is excited to be a part of our growing team at AEVC and to add her experience and knowledge base to our exceptional care of Portland's exotic pets.

Dr. Wells was born and raised in Metro Detroit. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at Wayne State University in downtown Detroit and then moved to East Lansing to complete her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Michigan State University. Dr. Wells loves Michigan so much that she stayed on at Michigan State University to complete her small animal rotating internship after graduation. From the beginning, Dr. Wells has had a strong passion for conservation and her ultimate goal is to become a board-certified specialist in zoological medicine (like Dr. Harrenstien). Throughout her journey, she has spent months training at multiple zoos across the United States and has published peer-reviewed research expanding our knowledge base in zoological medicine. To advance her own knowledge and training, Dr. Wells recently completed a rigorous avian, exotic, and zoological medicine and surgery specialty internship at Colorado State University. Dr. Wells hopes to continue to learn and provide specialty care to our incredible exotic species here at Avian and Exotic Veterinary Care in Portland. Jennifer was born and raised in West Phoenix. Her genuine care for animals and their well-being made a career in veterinary medicine a natural choice. She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Veterinary Medicine from Arizona State University in 2021. Following graduation, Jennifer worked at a small animal hospital for 2 and a half years where she developed a passion/interest for surgical assistance, venipuncture, and diagnostics such as in-house lab work, cytology, and ultrasound. Jennifer is dedicated to providing gold-standard care to every animal she works with, all while honing her skills and expanding her knowledge. Jennifer's companion animals include a Pitbull; Azula, miniature poodle; Appa, and bearded dragon; Zuko. One day, she hopes to work with elephants, preferably within a sanctuary.

Melanie was raised in California and moved to Arizona when she was 13. She has a Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Science from the University of Arizona. Her love for animals started when she was very young, and she knew she wanted to be in the veterinary field when she was only 9 years old! Melanie started her career at a hospital who only treated cats and dogs, and wanted to join our team to pursue her true passion working with exotic pets. Melanie grew up with dogs, cats, mice and hamsters, and when she got older, she adopted bearded dragons, axolotls, frogs, snakes, guinea pigs, rabbits and chinchillas. She now has two dogs (Onward, a very loving and energetic Australian Shepherd Mix, and Harper, a shy and sweet Maltipoo) as well as a senior guinea pig named Ramsey! In her free time, she likes to read World War II fiction, paint pet portraits, and spend time with her animals. Melanie is very excited to have joined the AZEAH family and has plans to grow within the company to continue helping exotic pets in need!

Although she has no exotic pets at home, she does have two cats, Butters, a domestic long hair and Chicken Bob, a sphynx. Mark spent most of his free time as a child chasing reptiles around northern Arizona and southern California. He joined the U.S. Army after high school which gave him the opportunity to chase reptiles around the southeastern United States, Europe, and the Middle East. Mark has cared for and raised many species of reptiles over the years. Although reptiles are his primary interest, he has a strong passion for all exotic pets. He currently spends most of his free time fishing at Arizona’s desert lakes or photographing rattlesnakes.

Kendra graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor’s degree in biology and later became a Certified Veterinary Technician. She worked for a veterinary dermatology specialty practice, where she had the opportunity to work with several animals at the Phoenix Zoo. She has also rehabilitated sick and injured raptors and other birds while volunteering at Liberty Wildlife. Her interest in exotic pets and wildlife/zoo animals led her to a career in exotic pet medicine. Kendra’s family includes her daughter Jenna, Cho-Cho the pitbull, Tabasco the cat, Frankie the ferret, and a cockatiel named Trixie.

Originally from Knox, Indiana, Katrina moved to Arizona in 2005, bringing with her a lifelong passion for animals. She earned her Associate of Arts degree from Mesa Community College in May 2016, where she also cared for a wide variety of exotic species in the college’s Life Science Department—including a kangaroo rat, pocket mouse, salamanders, desert toads, constrictor snakes, mud turtles, a crayfish, black widow, tarantula, desert tortoises, a bass, a chuckwalla, and desert iguanas.
Katrina has also volunteered with Wildhorse Ranch Rescue in Gilbert, AZ, helping to care for horses, mules, donkeys, and kittens.
From 2011 to 2022, Katrina worked in education as an Administrative Assistant. She’s now excited to return to a field that aligns more closely with her love for animals. She shares her home with her boyfriend and their beloved basset hound, Clark Kent.

His continued love for the Sonoran Desert and the Superstition Wilderness Area is what still keeps him here. Ron joined AZEAH in 2015 as Inventory Manager. He keeps us well supplied with all of our hospital needs as well as maintaining healthy relationships with all of our vendor partners. In his spare time he enjoys mountain biking, backpacking in the Superstition Mountains, and spending time with his wife and two sons.

She has earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science/Pre-veterinary Medicine from ASU in 2021 and her Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology from Pima Medical in 2024. Her goal is to use her certification and earn her VTS specializing in Exotic Companion Animal or Zoological Medicine. Rilee has previous experience working with her local veterinary clinic and various opportunities venturing out and learning under veterinarians in both Costa Rica and South Africa to work with their beautiful wildlife. When she is not working, her activities include finding good coffee, being outdoors, and spending time with her animals at home.

After the birth of her first child, Ana and her husband made the decision to move to Phoenix to be closer to family. Ana has a passion for educating clients about correct husbandry, especially for rabbits and guinea pigs. Ana currently has three rabbits and a dog and looks forward to adding on to her animal family in the future.

Kassidy Porter is a Certified Veterinary Technician with an Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology. She brings over five years of experience in emergency veterinary medicine and currently serves as a Veterinary Technician at AZEAH. Kassidy has a strong professional interest in emergency care, exotic animals, and anesthesia, and is passionate about providing high-quality, compassionate care to both companion and exotic species.
Originally from Mesa, Arizona, Kassidy moved to the mountains during grade school and has lived in over 25 different places across the state, with a brief stint in Oklahoma. Her love for animals is deeply personal, especially German Shepherds, inspired by her own three dogs: Phoenix, Dakota, and Griffin. She also enjoys working with birds and snakes and hopes to welcome a snake into her home in the near future.
Outside of work, Kassidy is an avid traveler and cruise enthusiast. She collects shot glasses from every destination she visits, with a collection now exceeding 100. Her favorite travel experiences so far include Japan and Hawaii, and she has many more adventures planned. Kassidy and her husband are devoted Disney fans and have visited Disney parks at least a dozen times in their five years together.
In her earlier years, Kassidy was active in sports and the performing arts, participating in volleyball, softball, cheerleading, choir, school plays, and even managing her school’s wrestling team. She once mastered a back handspring, though she jokes that attempting one now might end differently!

Avery was born in Mesa, Arizona but grew up in Prescott, Arizona for the majority of his childhood. Avery has always enjoyed the company of the creatures and life around him, whether it was cicadas in trees when he was in elementary school, succulents from the hardware store when he was in highschool, or snails in the rain when he was in college. He moved from Prescott to Tucson when he was 18 to go to the University of Arizona, where he studied wildlife conservation and management. During his time at the U of A, he got to work on projects studying various herpetological species native to the Sonoran Desert. Avery’s love for animals pushed him to go into the veterinary field. He received his Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology from Pima Community College, and during his studies he began working at a traditional dog/cat practice in Tucson. Avery has always been one for more unique animals, though. Avery has owned dogs, cats, rats, lizards, frogs, snakes, birds, fish, shrimp, snails, and many more during his adult life, so working with exotics has been extremely fulfilling and interesting for him. In the future, Avery hopes to continue working with and being around various creatures and life— whether they be exotic pets, desert plants, foraged fungus, or local wildlife.

Rebecca, Lead Technician at our Mesa office, has loved all animals for as long as she can remember, and has been working in the veterinary field since 1998. Rebecca followed her passion for working with exotic pets in 2001 and has been working primarily with them ever since. Rebecca earned her Veterinary Technician Certification in 2010. In her spare time she is a volunteer with the Phoenix Herpetological Society and Liberty Wildlife. She also rehabilitates bats for many wildlife groups. She has many exotic pets that she has adopted or rescued over the years, with the most unusual of her kids being a Brush-Tailed Bettong and two Patagonian Cavies.

Mari is a Tucson-native Veterinary Technician-Receptionist with an Associates degree in applied sciences from PMI. Having grown up with dogs, Mari has always been an animal lover but as she got older, she found herself surrounded by less conventional animals such as lizards, snakes, fish, frogs, and farm animals. In high school, Mari was gifted a calf named Clyde, whom she would take for weekly walks around the farm. Mari loves learning and has become very knowledgeable with her experience in rescue, rehabilitation, and fostering critters in need. Maria has helped nurse all kinds of animals back to health including but not limited to ferrets, chickens, sugar gliders, turtles/tortoises, fish, guinea pigs, snakes, and lizards. Maria recently earned her Veterinary Receptionist Certificate of Excellence (VRCE) and is now a VRCE Specialty and ER graduate. Her commitment to continued learning and excellence in client care makes her an invaluable part of our team.
Maria plans to continue her education in Wildlife Rehabilitation and Rescue while considering pursuing her doctorate. Ultimately, she plans to specialize in toxicology primarily focusing on Exotic/Small Mammal care. Maria also has dreams of visiting the African Savannah and even bigger dreams of exploring the Amazon Rainforest. In her free time, you may find Maria at the park; strolling with her bird or walking her dogs while playing Pokémon Go. When the weather is too hot for outside activities, Maria enjoys crafting with her Cricut, creating custom epoxy tumblers, playing Candy Crush (current level 4840), reading, and catching up on TV shows. She also enjoys making custom Bioactive Terrariums and spending time with her menagerie of pets! She is currently the proud mom of 4 dogs (Kash, Kahleo, Kayson,and Benito), 3 cats (Kyro, Kanti,and Kanissa), Sashimi the Sun Conure (pictured), and October the Corn snake. Sofia has always had animals as a huge part of her life. She has a particular love for reptiles, mainly tortoises, snakes, and lizards. She has two cats, two frogs, two dogs, a Crested gecko, and a desert tortoise. This spring, she will be graduating from ASU's 4+1 program with an MS in Biology.

After the passing of her skinny pig, Gilbert, she was touched by the staff’s kindness and left with a desire to help owners and their pets alike. Once she graduates with her Bachelor’s degree, Sophie aims to pursue a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree to work with exotic animals and wildlife.

Mary was born and raised in upstate New York before moving to Colorado in 2021. She grew up around dogs and cats, but her interest in exotic animal medicine began after adopting a hedgehog during her early twenties. Since then, she has gone on to earn her Associate’s in Applied Science in Veterinary Technology at LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City, NY. After working with dogs and cats for a few years after graduation, Mary was excited to accept a position at Colorado Exotic Animal Hospital to pursue her interest in avian and exotic animals.
Currently, she lives in Denver with two cats and two chinchillas. In her spare time, she loves to read, crochet, or explore her new home state of Colorado.

Mark has cared for and raised many species of reptiles over the years. Although reptiles are his primary interest, he has a strong passion for all exotic pets. He currently spends most of his free time fishing at Arizona’s desert lakes or photographing rattlesnakes.

Victoria originally grew up in the urban jungle that is south Florida. Before graduating from Florida State University with a bachelor’s degree in biology, she discovered her passion for working with animals at the Tallahassee Museum, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and the Goose Creek Wildlife Center. She then moved to Colorado for a change of scenery shortly after receiving her degree.
Once in this beautiful state, Victoria worked in shelter medicine, which ultimately sparked an interest in becoming a certified veterinary technician. She then attended Bel-Rea Institute and earned her associates in veterinary technology, while completing externships at both the Pueblo Zoo and at Cape Wildlife Center in Barnstable, Massachusetts. Though she has a soft spot for birds of prey (especially owls), Victoria absolutely adores all animals big and small, whether they be of the avian, reptilian, or mammalian variety. Currently, she is the proud owner of two very outspoken cats, Jax and Opie, who really have the personality of felines 10 times their size (so that’s basically like owning an exotic pet, right?). In her free time, she enjoys anything Star Wars and building intricate Lego creations.

She has always had a passion for working with exotic animals and wildlife especially birds of prey, so she is very excited to expand her learning in avian medicine and surgery. Maddi was born and raised in Denver, Colorado spending a majority of her childhood collecting and learning about creatures of all kinds. She moved to Arizona in pursuit of her passion for animals, working towards obtaining her degree in conservation biology at Arizona State University. During her time in Arizona, she has provided veterinary care for injured and sick birds of prey through the Wild at Heart raptor rescue and began her journey at Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital in Mesa. Her adoration for exotic species and her love for her hometown led Maddi to return to Denver and practice at Colorado Exotic Animal Hospital. Once obtaining her degree, Maddi would love to follow her aspirations of helping to rehabilitate wildlife around the world. Outside of the field, she loves spending her time hula hooping, drawing and fawning over her bearded dragon Shrimp, her dog Mowgli and her cat Pluto.

Shelby is a proud third-generation Colorado native with a lifelong passion for caring for animals of all species. Shelby began her career as a registered technician in small animal general practice, where she built a strong foundation in patient care before pursuing her true passion of working with and helping exotic animals. Outside of work, Shelby enjoys embracing Colorado’s outdoors through hiking and snowboarding, as well as expressing her creativity through painting. At home, she shares her life with two cats, a crested gecko, a leopard gecko, and a betta fish, further reflecting her dedication to and love for animals.

Hannah has grown up in Colorado surrounded by animals and has been passionate about them her entire life. Getting her first reptile in 2021, and her first rescue shortly after, she has since found that her true passion lies with reptiles and amphibians. She has worked several years in the food and retail industries gaining experience in customer service and management. She found Colorado Exotic Animal Hospital through her own rescued animals. She has spent numerous hours doing rescue and rehabilitation work with Reptile and Amphibian Center of The Rockies and Righteous Reptile Rescue. Discovering the need for reptile and amphibian rescue rehabilitation and education, she has gone on to form her own rescue organization called Saving Scales Reptile Rescue. She plans to expand her knowledge here at Colorado Exotic Animal Hospital and help as many animals as possible. She enjoys focusing on husbandry and bioactive enclosures and enjoys crafting hides and backgrounds. In her free time, she enjoys the the outdoors, drawing, videogames, enclosure design, and spending time with her pets. Her pets consist of a chatty cat names Jerry, and her rescue reptiles Mochi the California kingsnake, Ghost the leopard gecko, 3 crested geckos named Pancake, Banana, and Nugget, Jelly Bean the Brazilian rainbow boa, Biscuit the red-tail boa, and Soup the Peter's banded skink.

Scott was born and raised the northern part of Colorado. Growing up, his household had a wide variety of animals including 3 parakeets, named Sky, Jay, and Casper. Also, a toad named Oscar, a black cat named shadow, and a fish in his living room.
He has mostly worked with dogs in various settings including Daycare and veterinary reception/assistant positions and has always preferred being surrounded by animals. While in pursuit of a degree in social work, Scott has been on a journey to gain firsthand experience with domestic animals in hopes to incorporate them into his career.
At home resides a 65-pound German Shepherd named Rags, who occupies the whole apartment and leaves no room for additional critters. To fill that void he has joined our team!

She has also rehabilitated sick and injured raptors and other birds while volunteering at Liberty Wildlife. Originally from Knox, Indiana, Katrina moved to Arizona in 2005, bringing with her a lifelong passion for animals. She earned her Associate of Arts degree from Mesa Community College in May 2016, where she also cared for a wide variety of exotic species in the college’s Life Science Department—including a kangaroo rat, pocket mouse, salamanders, desert toads, constrictor snakes, mud turtles, a crayfish, black widow, tarantula, desert tortoises, a bass, a chuckwalla, and desert iguanas.
Katrina has also volunteered with Wildhorse Ranch Rescue in Gilbert, AZ, helping to care for horses, mules, donkeys, and kittens.
From 2011 to 2022, Katrina worked in education as an Administrative Assistant. She’s now excited to return to a field that aligns more closely with her love for animals. She shares her home with her boyfriend and their beloved basset hound, Clark Kent.

Mandy has been a veterinary assistant with AEVC since 2018, and is now our Hospital Manager. Mandy is a born and raised native of Portland, Oregon. She first worked with exotic animals when she was a ZooTeen at the Oregon Zoo in high school, and she was able to follow her passion by attending PCC's Biology and Management of Zoo Animals program, obtaining an Associate of Applied Sciences degree. Mandy completed a year long co-op internship at the Oregon Zoo and a 3 month internship at Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium in Tacoma, WA working with a wide variety of species in their Asian Forest Sanctuary exhibit. Mandy previously worked in emergency veterinary medicine but is now extending her insight and her abilities at AEVC. In her spare time, Mandy enjoys time with her family, reading manga, watching anime and doing puzzles.

When not at work, Jake is an avid urban farmer himself who enjoys spending time with his goats, chickens, cats, dogs, and ever fluctuating number of rabbits. They would watch the bats from the barn fly overhead at night and catch frogs at the pond in the summer. After moving to the city their passion for animals continued. They volunteered with FIDO, a pet food bank in Oregon City with their family. They hope to be able to apply and attend school to become a licensed veterinary technician in the future. In their free time, they enjoy playing video games with their partner, reading, and painting. They moved out with their partner and cats (Myla, age 3, and April, age 4) in August of 2023 and began working at AEVC as a receptionist in June of 2024. They recently added a third cat (Professor Snipperton, age 15) and a Western Hognose (Werm/Dr. Evil, age 2) to the family and are excited for the journey ahead.

Although he has only worked in the veterinary field for a couple years, he knew he wanted to be in this field of work since elementary school. Kathleen has had a lifelong love for animals. Her first pets were a guinea pig and silkworms when she was four years old, and she started fostering orphaned kittens when she was twelve. Kathleen's passion for wildlife and conservation guided her to earn a bachelor’s degree in environmental studies. With a desire to get hands on experience with a wide range of animal species, Kathleen completed the 2 year Biology and Management of Zoo Animals program at PCC. Through the program Kathleen completed a student internship at the Oregon Zoo, and she has been involved in wildlife rehabilitation at the Audubon Society of Portland for almost five years. Throughout Kathleen’s life, she has had a variety of pets from box turtles and rats to parakeets. Currently, Kathleen has a dog, two cats, five goldfish, and a 20-year-old corn snake. And an update in 2022, she successfully passed the CPBT exam to become recognized as CPBT-KA, which stands for Certified Professional Bird Trainer - Knowledge Assessed; congratulations Kathleen!

Growing up she went to the same schools as her father and even had some of the same teachers. Juli has always loved animals, furred, feathered, or otherwise and has owned her own menagerie of exotic pets in the past. She went to PCC and graduated from the veterinary technician program and has been in the veterinary field ever since. Juli has almost 30 years of experience in the veterinary field working both as a licensed technician and as a receptionist. Currently Juli enjoys spending time with her geriatric chihuahua Speedy, emotional doberman Max, and easy going boxer heeler mix Dexter.

Malik was born and raised right here in Tucson, Arizona. He began his content creation journey on YouTube in 2019. When Covid hit, he focused on his craft and built up his brand as an influencer, amassing a following of over 200,000 people. He studied with the leading social media networks, learning the ins and outs of social media management from their own platform developers. Malik is a trusted voice for influencer marketing and has worked with some of the largest brands in the world, including NZXT, Epic Games, and Fabletics. Malik is excited to bring his expertise to the world of exotic animals! In his free time, he enjoys traveling with his wife and spending time with his sulcata tortoises named George Michael and Maeby.

Ron grew up in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania and ventured to Arizona for warmer weather over 20 years ago. His continued love for the Sonoran Desert and the Superstition Wilderness Area is what still keeps him here. Ron joined AZEAH in 2015 as Inventory Manager. He keeps us well supplied with all of our hospital needs as well as maintaining healthy relationships with all of our vendor partners. In his spare time he enjoys mountain biking, backpacking in the Superstition Mountains, and spending time with his wife and two sons.

Lisa's had a love for animals ever since she was a little girl. She always knew she wanted to work with animals. Lisa began working with exotics when she lived in California. She continued her passion for working with exotics when she moved to Arizona and found us in 2018.
